a video prototype for an augmented reality spatial application
BIM (Building Information Modeling) has revolutionized the entire process of designing, constructing, and managing buildings over the past ten years. However, while primarily based on computer workstations in an office, the digital BIM model rarely makes it to the physical construction site.
Using new possibilities for mobile computing in tablet devices like the Apple iPad and local positioning systems like RFID (radio frequency identification) and real-time location systems (RTLS), an augmented reality (AR) BIM application could increase the on-site value of BIM models during both construction and post-occupancy maintenance. The goal of this project is to research the available possibilities in augmented reality for spatial navigation using real-time video from a tablet device.
